Blue Star Families of Hampton Roads, Virginia now known as Blue Star Moms of Hampton Roads, VA  (10/09) was founded in February, 2008 and Chartered May, 2008 in response to the need to provide support to the families of active duty military personnel.  It is a Chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., which was chartered by Congress in 1960 and received tax exempt status with the IRS in August 2004.
 
Blue Star Moms support each other along with our military community.  We share educational information to benefit the members and their families through speakers, meetings, informal gatherings and email.  We raise funds through donations from community groups and individual sponsors.
 
Blue Star Moms of Hampton Roads  is a non-partisan, non-sectarian, non-profit and multi-racial support group for the United States Armed Forces service members, civilians and their families.
 
 
Who Can Hang the Service Flag:
The Department of Defense specifies that family members authorized to display the flag include the wife, husband, mother, father, stepmother or father, parent through adoption, foster parents who stand or stood loco parentis, children, stepchildren, children through adoption, brothers, sisters and half brothers or sisters of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States. The flag should be displayed in a window of the residence of persons authorized.The Service flag may also be displayed by an organization to honor the members of that organization serving during a period of war or hostilities.
 
Who Can Join:
Blue Star Mothers
A Mother, Grandmother, or Stepmother (since the child was of the age of 13) who has a son or daughter who is serving, or has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States. Services included are the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve Units, and the Merchant Marines.
 
Blue Star Dads (associate member)
Dads we need you!!  We do have Blue Star Dad Pins.  A Father or Step Father (since the child was of the age of 13) who has a son or daughter who is serving, or has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States.  Services included are the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve Units, and the Merchant Marines.
 
Blue Star Associates
A spouse, sister, brother, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, or friend of someone who is serving, or has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States. Services included are the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve Units, and the Merchant Marines.
